New Smoothie King coming to Painesville | News

Anna and Michael Dey, who opened Clean Eatz in Mentor in 2018, will now be opening a Smoothie King  at 1188 Mentor Ave. in Painesville.

It will take over the Mr. Chicken building.

Anna Dey, who also opened Anytime Fitness in Concord Township with her dad in 2012, said the decision to open a Smoothie King came after debate on whether or not she should open another Clean Eatz or a Anytime Fitness.

“I looked into opening second locations of both,” she said. “You can’t really put them close together. In order to do a second location, we would’ve had to move out of our hometown.”

Instead, they decided to open a Smoothie King.

Smoothie King will offer smoothies that focus on providing customers a healthy choices to coincide with healthy and active lifestyles.

“It felt like the right time to move in that direction,” Anna Dey said. “It’s congruent with our other businesses because it’s a health and fitness and wellness-focused business.”

The Smoothie King will offer healthy-based options primarily pertaining to those who focus on their health and fitness.

“We’re getting to a place in 2020 where people really care about their health,” she said. “It’s people who want to be healthier, want to make better food choices, want to feel better.”

Dey said this Smoothie King location will not have inside seating because of the required architecture, but she is looking into other future locations that may have dine-in services.

Smoothie King will be replacing the Mr. Chicken on 1188 Mentor Ave. after 43 years of service. A complete renovation will occur.

“We’re looking at a second location in Mentor or Willoughby,” she said. “If we moved forward on either of those locations, there will be interior seating.”

Dey said Smoothie King will offer smoothies on four menu choices with a focus on nutrition such as fitness blends, slim blends, wellness blends, break-time blends that consist of smoothies made without high fructose corn syrup, hydrogen oils, GMO fruits and vegetables, gluten, or artificial colors.

Dey also said there will be a children’s menu and a “No-No-List” menu.

Dey said there is no official opening date because the building will undergo a complete renovation and will be “a pretty thorough construction project.”
