Lizzo’s Workout Routine Includes Jump Rope And Resistance Bands

It’s hard to watch Lizzo dance, play the flute, and sing on stage without being impressed. That type of stamina doesn’t magically happen, and so it’ll come as little surprise to learn that the musician doesn’t just sing about exercising in hit songs like “Fitness,” she’s actually been sweating consistently for the past five years…not that she’s doing it for the applause.

“I’m not working out to have your ideal body type. I’m working out to have my ideal body type,” she said in a recent TikTok workout video. “And you know what type that is? None of your f*cking business. Because I am beautiful, I am strong, I do my job, and I stay on my job.”

The “Good As Hell” singer wasn’t always in this place of self-love. But a decade ago Lizzo made the decision to accept herself without qualifications. “Ten years later, I have a healthy relationship with my body,” she told NPR.

Today, the singer frequently posts snippets of her sweat sessions on her social media platforms. Keep reading to see exactly what Lizzo is doing for her workouts on a regular basis.

Watch Lizzo crush it with this series of bodyweight exercises and resistance moves. This workout targets her total body in just three drills: superman, battle ropes, weighted squats. And since she’s performing it as a circuit, it doubles as cardio training too.

2. She’s a jump rope queen.

Lizzo, who trains with Marcus Ely, is among the many celebs jumping rope for cardio these days (think: Halle Berry and Carrie Underwood). Learning to skip can be super beneficial for your health—after six weeks of 10-minute jump-rope exercises, participants had the same levels of improved cardiovascular health as those who jogged for 30 minutes a day (!!), per research from the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

3. She focuses on full-body workouts that rev her heart rate.

Here, the singer is spotted working out to her own song “Tempo” while performing an intense total-body circuit. Just watching her go from lat pulldowns to core work with a stability ball to jumping jacks, before ending with battle ropes is exhausting. Something else it happens to be? A great way to combine cardio and strength training for faster results!

4. She spins her wheels on an exercise bike.

In her viral clapback TikTok video, Lizzo revealed more than her feelings about fat shamers. She showed that riding a stationary bike is part of her regular fitness routine. If you aren’t clued into the benefits of an exercise bike, let me help you out: Indoor cycling can improve aerobic capacity (or oxygen uptake) and blood pressure, plus increase lean muscle mass, per a systemic review of indoor cycling benefits published in the Medicina Journal. Kinda makes you wanna hop in the saddle, no?
