Good Samaritan July schedule set

MARTINSBURG — Good Samaritan Free Health Care hours for July. Located at 601 South Raleigh St., Martinsburg. No appointments necessary for walk in clinic. They are following safe COVID-19 prevention practices.

SCH offers patients care delivery options MARTINSBURG — A drive-through testing service is available on 99 Tavern Road for Primary Care and Women’s Health patients with COVID-19 symptoms. Patients must call 304-263-4999 first for a preliminary screening, if criteria is met, as determined by WV DHHR, a time will be scheduled for drive-through care. Patients who do not meet the testing criteria for COVID-19 will be given other instructions for continued symptom monitoring or other illnesses. Telehealth services are also available for patients of Behavioral Health, Primary Care and Women’s Health GYN, call to see if this is an option for your care. Scheduled appointments are still available in their typical setting depending on the nature of the visit as the health and safety of their patients and employees remain their number one priority.

Healthy Berkeley Challenge announcedMARTINSBURG — Healthy Berkeley: It’s Up to Us, a community collaborative that was formed to improve the health and well-being of the citizens of Berkeley County, is sponsoring a challenge for all ages and abilities.

The Healthy Berkeley Challenge runs from July 15 through Aug. 15. The program focuses on helping people stay active and healthy with fun, health/fitness activities. Staying active, eating healthy and being connected to others and the community can have a positive effect on well-being.

The challenge can be done individually or as a family. Once registered, participants will receive the calendar of challenges. Achieve at least 19 out of 32 challenges to be entered into a prize drawing. There are also ways in the calendar of challenges to earn extra entries.

Challenges will include various fitness activities such as walking, riding a bike, and visiting a local park or trail. Healthy eating recommendations include trying a new fruit or vegetable, and visiting a local farmers market. Various other activities are designed to help with stress and mental health. All of these challenges will encourage participants to try new activities, explore new places and be connected to family, friends and community in a healthy way.

Prizes will include gift certificates to the Martinsburg Farmers Market and Main Street businesses. All participants will be notified of the winners. Prizes can be picked up at the Martinsburg Farmers Market 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 and 28, or they will be mailed.

WVU Medicine hosts virtual walk with a docHARPERS FERRY — WVU Medicine University Healthcare Physicians, the Rotary Club of Charles Town and the WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program are now offering virtual Walk with a Doc events 9 a.m. every other Saturday.

The Walk with a Doc program is designed for anyone looking to take steps toward a healthier lifestyle and encourages healthy physical activity in people of all ages and ability levels.

During the event, a WVU Medicine provider or a resident from the WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program leads an interactive Zoom meet-up. Participants are encouraged to download the Zoom app on their smartphone and join the meet-up for a 30 minute group walk. During these interactive walks, participants will have the opportunity to connect with other group members and participate in conversations with a medical provider.

Virtual chronic pain program on tapMARTINSBURG — WVU Medicine East is offering a virtual program for those dealing with chronic pain. Living Well is being offered via Zoom to allow participants access to the program from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

This seven-week chronic pain self-management program includes a weekly workshop designed to help individuals coping with one or more chronic pain learn to take day-to-day responsibility for their care, increase the skills necessary to manage their pain and work effectively with their health care professional. The first session, session Zero, is an introduction to Zoom and the workshop virtual process.

Living Well is free and open to those with chronic pain and other health issues related to pain. Everyone can benefit from learning the skills to coordinate all the activities needed to manage their health, as well as help them maintain a full and active life.

Participants will need a computer, phone or tablet in order to access Zoom. The device must also have a camera and microphone. A quiet place and a stable chair are also recommended for joining the classes.
